7 Ways To Get The MOST Out Of Your Workout – In Partnership With Reebok

So you got out of bed…congrats! No really, this sounds simple, but in our opinion it’s one of the HARDEST parts of getting to a workout. Yes, getting there is half the battle, but what about the other half? We don’t get our butts to the gym to waste time or money … it’s more than a bummer to spend $30+ dollars only to find out the workout wasn’t worth your while. So here are 7 ways to maximize your workout, so that doesn’t happen!


Are you a “get up and go” kinda gal, or do you prefer to hit the gym post-work? Maybe you love a lunch & crunch? For us, our preference has always been an AM workout, but we can tell you that after traveling, especially if we’re jetlagged … this isn’t always the case. We try to schedule a workout time when we know we’ll feel our best. Sometimes it’s better to get that extra hour of sleep and save the sweat for after work, or maybe get it out the way so you KNOW you won’t cancel. Whatever time is best for you, take note!


Again, very specific to every person. Some people need a proper meal and caffeine boost prior to working out, and others prefer to do without. We know terms like “fasted cardio” and “intermittent fasting” have become trendy, but maybe they don’t work for you. If your stomach is grumbling during the second half of your workout (& all you’re thinking about is breakfast), you may need to re-order your morning. It is important to be aware of your fuel needs and know that they are very individual … so don’t compare to anyone else! You have no idea what the person next to you ate the night before, or how their body operates for that matter, so just tune in and give your body what it needs for peak performance.


Making sure you’ve dressed for the occasion is essential. Everything from the proper footwear to supportive and comfortable undergarments are key. We’ve been a big fan of Reebok for years, specifically for our higher intensity/cardio workouts. Their clothes really move with you and no matter how many times you run them through the wash, the quality remains on point. Ever been shafted with a corner spot during barre class and had to worry about being kicked in the face the entire time? WE HAVE. You’ve paid for the class, so you should be able to comfortably do all the moves without restriction, so try to priotize getting there a little early and seeking out your optimal place in the room! If the spot-rush is too intense, SAY SOMETHING. Your instructor will most definitely help you with a solve!


Rest days are so so crucial … especially after an intense workout that leaves your muscles super sore.  When you keep tearing down  muscle without giving it proper time to rebuild, the results will not be what you’re looking for! Weekly rest days will without a doubt lead to better results and prevent injuries!


Quality over quantity applies during class without a doubt. It’s way better to do a simplified move with proper form than to overcomplicate and lose the move (+ potentially put yourself at risk). We will often take our ankle weight off in order to make sure our leg can get all the way straight straight, or drop to a lower set of weights when it suits us. This doesn’t mean you “failed” or are not suited for the workout, it simply means you are taking control of the situation by listening to your body and not comparing yourself to others! When you tune in and make sure you’re maintaining proper form, you get the most of out a move.


Ever been ready to roll at a studio and then the instructor totally kills your vibe? Maybe they were more bootcamp style than you expected, focused too heavily on a single body part or you simply just didn’t click. While it’s hard to know before you try, it can definitely help to do some research prior to signing up for a class.     Thank you for the tips. I have been needing to get back into shape and these feel right to try for myself. I much prefer working out at home but I remember feeling more motivated to work out with other people. I will be pinning this also so others can find use of it as well.
