One of the main questions we get asked is “Do you guys eat dessert?” and people always want to know “If so, how often? And what’s your go-to sweet?”.
The quick answer is: Yes.
Here’s what you should know about our relationship with sweets:
We love sweets.
We are girls with a major sweet tooth, and dessert is something we will always make room for as part of our healthy lifestyle (all about that balanced life!) We don’t try to fight this, we just try to manage it, but still enjoy life while we’re at it. We’re human, too!
We moderate, but not too much.
That being said, moderation is key here. We’re all about finding the right amount of sweet to satisfy our cravings. It’s also important to note that we don’t believe in an all or nothing mentality. We aren’t gluten free, dairy free, sugar free or anything of that nature, because we find it doesn’t work well for us personally.
We don’t restrict.
We’ve also found that when we’ve tried to restrict dessert (or anything for that matter) in the past, if the opportunity to have dessert or that “forbidden” food arises, all hell breaks loose … and we DEF want to avoid that. Having a restrictive mindset can make you fixate on what you are/aren’t eating, and in our opinion that’s no way to live!
We look for healthy alternatives. (they can taste good!)
Because of this, we are always on the lookout for healthier dessert options, particularly those with ingredients we feel good about. There are so many incredible alternatives to traditional “junk food” out there on the market. Things we look for: minimal ingredients, low sugar, no chemicals and high protein.
And, as you may have guessed, this criteria is how we came across our new favorite sweet … Swell Ice Cream.
Here’s why we LOVE Swell.
First off, it’s nearly impossible to tell that this is an “alternative” to traditional ice cream. The flavors are outrageously delicious (shouts out to Chocolate Chip Cookie Batter and Cookie’s N Cream), the texture is extremely creamy and yet the nutritional values are on point.
It’s high in protein, low in fat, soy-free, gluten-free (you know, the works). Oh and did we mention each serving is around 120 calories? We were so surprised by how much ice cream we could was in a serving, too (about 1/4 of the container) — definitely enough to satisfy. Also, a serving of the salted caramel flavor only has 0.5g of fat! We recommend trying with some raw cacao nibs on top for an added crunch!
Swell has quickly become a staple in our freezer … one of those must-have-handy items, if you know what we mean. We find it to be particularly great for after a meal out at a restaurant, so we can skip the restaurant sweets and have our own at home, knowing we’ll both enjoy and feel good about what we’re eating.
