Class + Studio: Pilates Duet @ Erika Bloom Pilates
Location: NYC (UES), Water Mill, East Hampton, Connecticut (Greenwich), LA (Brentwood)
Length: 60 mins.
Description: Semi-private, classical pilates studio uptown. They offer several machines (cadillac, reformer & others) and your instructor will cater the class entirely to you. It’s an incredibly form focused workout, and they are all about getting into proper alignment in order to condition, lengthen and strengthen the body.
Sweat Level: 1/10 – Especially if you’re new to the studio, you’ll likely go slow to learn breathwork, positions & other intricacies … so don’t plan on sweating much.
Tone Level: 4/10 – Throughout class you won’t feel much toning (at least in an initial session), as a lot of time is spent getting into proper form & perfecting the moves. It’s a very slow paced class, not a burnout. However, we were both sore the next day, and found it to be very effective!
Cult Level: 2/10 – Tons of regulars, but since it was a private, we didn’t pick up on any cult vibes at all! Everyone was very friendly.
Sneakers/Props: Barefoot.
Shower/Locker Situation: Lockers but no showers.
Vibe: Chic (the studio + the location) & right across from the park. Friendly, bright and clean!
Similar to: Julie Pilates, Uptown Pilates
Extras: Not on CP & no group classes offered.
Go Back? Yes – different studio than we’re used to. Ideally this is somewhere you commit to at least a few consecutive sessions, as there’s a big learning component.
