At the start of every year, we release a list of what we believe will be up and coming in the health + wellness space in the new year. 2020 wasn’t what anyone could have possibly predicted … and brought upon a ton of changes to the space. Here’s what we think for 2021:
WORKOUT MASKS.
With 2020 came the year of masks and we don’t think these will be slowing down just yet. If studios start to slowly open again, many will likely still require masks until the pandemic is over.
NO-TOUCH SPA SERVICES.
Compression therapy, infrared saunas, salt caves, etc. will likely be preferred for the next while as people are shying away from hands-on spa services such as massages and facials.
AESTHETIC SERVICES: FOCUSED ABOVE THE MASK (Hair, Eyes, Brows).
We think there will be less $ spent on services and makeup for the entire face or parts that are covered up by masks (lip injections, lipsticks, foundations) and more focused on what you CAN see with a mask — think eyebrows, lash extensions and so forth.
MEAL DELIVERY OPTIONS.
2020 was a year of a TON of takeout – and while we still of course continue to support our local restaurants, we think people will be seeking more affordable, healthy options that aren’t always their own cooking — we’ve seen a ton of expansion in the meal delivery space, and we’re excited to see what’s next.
VIRTUAL FITNESS EXPANSION.
This is NOT slowing down anytime soon, and even as studios come back – we think the two will coexist, with many people heavily reliant on their at-home routine.
SHORTER WORKOUTS.
Squeezing in a quick workout between Zoom meetings will definitely still be a thing.
PROTECTIVE WARDROBE.
We’ve seen many creative, safety-enhancing options popping up — rompers, hats, gloves and more to protect you from germs (especially during travel), that you can toss in the wash after use.
NON-ALCOHOLIC SPIRITS.
With the rise of ‘sober curiosity’, we believe there will be a wider range of non-alcoholic offerings, particularly in the form of spirits. Think mood boosting drinks for socializing sans hangover.
SKINCARE FOR MEN.
It’s no news that couples have spent A LOT of time at home together lately, so it’s likely that men will have had more of a glimpse into skincare routines than ever before. We believe men to be a big new focus in the category.
VEGAN LEATHER/FUR EXPANSION.
We’re projecting to see a lot more vegan options in this space, made out of increasingly creative materials, for example: mushroom leather!
What do you believe we’ll see more of in 2021 in the fitness and wellness space?
