The other day on the story I played the ‘assumptions about me’ game with you all.

I wanted to highlight the most common assumption I received: ‘you grew up wealthy’.

I grew up in a small Michigan town with two incredibly hard working nurses for parents. My mom still works, and my Dad reluctantly retired at the age of 74 - he literally lives for helping other people (and tried to go back to work at the hospital during the pandemic…). And I wouldn’t change a thing about this.

I bring this up because I think there’s this assumption that if you’re a blogger, influencer, work for yourself, whatever you want to call it … you must have ‘come from money’ (I don’t like that term, but a lot of people used the other day).

And I just want to set the record straight - you CAN create your dream job without financial backing from your family. I worked through college, paid off all my student loans shortly after graduating, moved to NYC with very little money, worked my way up at Bloomberg, and saved, planned and manifested incessantly to make SATC as a full-time job my reality. And you can make it happen too, without the help of anyone else … you just have to want it badly enough!
